Campaign Nonviolence Action Days 2026 mobilise tens of thousands for nonviolent solutions

zm2 min read

Between the International Day of Peace (21 September) and the International Day of Nonviolence (2 October), Gandhi's birthday, tens of thousands of people are taking part in the Campaign Nonviolence Action Days 2026, coordinated by Pace e Bene with more than 100 partner organisations, including Nonviolent Peaceforce, the Peace Alliance, World BEYOND War, CODEPINK and the Strategic Nonviolence Academy.

Actions are taking place in 24 U.S. states and more than 17 countries. They range from vigils, marches, rallies and film screenings to teach-ins, restorative circles, tree-planting, community gardens and workshops on conflict resolution. A Strategic Nonviolence Day on 22 September honours the late Rev. James Lawson, one of the great trainers of the civil rights movement.

The campaign's central idea is that nonviolence is not only a form of protest but a set of practical solutions: restorative justice, renewable energy, living wages, affordable housing, gun violence prevention, divestment from fossil fuels and civilian-based defence as an alternative to military approaches.

At a time when violence often appears to be the only language of politics, these days of action are a reminder that organised, creative and active nonviolence is being built every day, in thousands of local communities.
